Mrs. Gibbons

Theatre Director, Olentangy Berlin High School

Erin Gibbons has been the driving force behind the Olentangy Berlin High School Theatre Department since its inception in 2018. With a passion for performance and education, she brings a wealth of experience to the stage and classroom, helping students discover their love for theatre and develop their skills in acting, technical production, and beyond.

A graduate of Capital University, Gibbons holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication & Theatre Studies, focusing on theatre. Her journey into theatre began unexpectedly after attending an outdoor performance, where the encouragement of director Helen Freeman sparked a lifelong love for the arts.

As the Theatre Director at Berlin, Gibbons leads a wide array of theatre classes, from Intro to Theatre to Directing and Musical Theatre. She’s passionate about ensuring all students—regardless of their experience or schedule—have access to theatre opportunities, whether through performance, technical roles, or classroom exploration. Gibbons continually advocates for innovative approaches, such as online theatre classes, to meet the needs of busy students while expanding access to the arts.

Gibbons treasures the bonds formed within the Berlin Theatre Department, celebrating the moments of collaboration and creativity that come with every production. One of her favorite memories is the inaugural dinner theatre, a performance filled with unknowns but ultimately a resounding success that left both the audience and performers inspired.

Under her leadership, the theatre department stages two major productions each year, including musicals, plays, and student-directed works. Gibbons is dedicated to fostering a sense of community and excellence, ensuring that students not only build their skills but also experience the joy and camaraderie of working toward a shared artistic goal.

Her advice for students considering theatre is simple: get involved. Whether signing up for a class, auditioning for a show, or joining the crew, Gibbons believes there’s a place for everyone in Berlin Theatre.

When Erin Gibbons isn’t directing or teaching, she’s spending time with her family—especially her husband Doug, who also designs sets and choreographs stage combat for Berlin Theatre, and their children, Dean and Ellia. She loves creating experiences with them, whether at home or on adventures together.
